Day by day itinerary

  1. Day 1Arrival in Moshi

    Arrive and transfer to your hotel in Moshi for a gear check and climb briefing with your guide.

  2. Day 2Rongai Gate to Simba Camp

    Drive to the Rongai trailhead near the Kenyan border and trek through farmland and pine forest to Simba Camp at 2,625m.

  3. Day 3Simba Camp to Kikelewa

    Trek across open moorland with growing views of Kibo to reach Kikelewa Camp at 3,600m.

  4. Day 4Kikelewa to Mawenzi Tarn

    A short but steep climb to Mawenzi Tarn at 4,330m, set beneath the jagged Mawenzi peak, with an afternoon acclimatisation walk.

  5. Day 5Across the saddle to Kibo Hut

    Cross the lunar saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo to Kibo Hut at 4,700m, then rest and prepare for the summit.

  6. Day 6Summit day to Uhuru Peak

    A midnight start takes you to Gilman Point on the crater rim and on to Uhuru Peak at 5,895m for sunrise, before a long descent to Horombo Hut at 3,720m.

  7. Day 7Descend and departure

    A final descent through forest to Marangu Gate, where you receive your summit certificate, then transfer back to Moshi.
